A Flecha e a Canção
Atirei uma flecha no horizonte
E ela caiu em terra, não soube onde;
Porque, de tão veloz que voou, a vista
Não poderia seguir a sua pista.
Atirei uma canção no horizonte
E ela caiu em terra, não soube onde;
Pois quem tem vista forte e penetrante
Capaz de acompanhar o som viandante?
Mais tarde e longe, num carvalho enfiada,
Eu vi, inteira, a flecha arremessada;
E a canção, do início ao fim, consigo
Achar depois, no peito de um amigo.

The
Arrow and the Song
I shot an
arrow into the air
It fell to earth, I
know not where:
For, so swiftly it
flew, the sight
Could not follow it
in its flight.
I breathed a song into
the air,
It fell to earth, I knew
not where:
For who has sight so
keen and strong
That it can follow the
flight of a song?
Long, long afterward in
an oak
I found the arrow, still
unbroke:
And the song, from
beginning to end
I found again in the
heart of a friend.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
